Blind contour is a way for me to make art that allows my mind to be clear of visual "noise". When studying an image or subject as I am drawing it, my eyes do not look at my drawing hand, and my pen does not leave the paper. There is an intuitive connection with me and the subject, as well as a constant connection of my pen to the paper. This combination allows for the subject's true essence to come through in the resulting image, without the pretense of trying to be technically correct. From an early age I recognized that I have a unique way of looking at the world. When I learned about the blind contour technique for drawing, I felt a weight lift; the gap had been bridged between the images in my head and what came out onto the paper. This is a way to truly see without looking.
I want to show you what I see in my mind's eye. Blind contour allows me to display what I'm seeing in a unique abstract way, while still presenting the essence of each subject I draw. I have an educational background in Art History (BA). I have always enjoyed studying different types of artwork while learning about the artists who created them.
I mainly draw with point permanent marker and watercolor or acrylic, on paper or canvas.

When I create a blind contour portrait of a person, the big reveal is my favorite part, when the drawing step is done. I love the semi-abstract feel to the resulting artwork, and the way certain physical traits really stand out from piece to piece.
Larger group portraits are also available. When a drawing is finished, I like to add watercolor or acrylic paint to the image to really show the individuality of each person.
My work is not limited to animals and people. I also enjoy nature and architecture as subjects for my images.
Architectural elements are in the spotlight in my blind contour architecture drawings. Add a splash of color at the end, and the personality of each structure pops.
Observations of nature - each creature shows its personality through a single line.
The texture and style within plants and vegetation lend themselves to this method very readily.
